Cool Travel Resources on Officially Philippines.com

August 3, 2011

Did you know that of the 500 known coral species in the world, 488 are found in the Philippines? Or that the top 3 exotic foods in the country are balut (fertilized duck embryo), paniki (bats) and kamaro (fried crickets)? These are just a few of the fun facts found in this infographic about Philippine Tourism on the website Officially Philippines.

The colorful airline ticket highlights some interesting trivia about  the country, including UNESCO spots, tourist arrivals by month and year, and tourism revenue, among others.

There are also some cool interactive resources, like a map that lets you explore Manila via the Mass Rail Transit (MRT). By selecting stations as your starting point and destination point, you can read articles listing the landmarks, food haunts and shopping places near that station.

Another resource on the site is a map of the Philippines that gives a quick overview of the different provinces. By clicking each region, you get a regional overview, a list of provinces and major landmarks, distance from Manila, and a handy guide of how to get there by air and sea.

The website is managed by a team of travel enthusiasts who gather articles written by travelers based on their first hand experiences of various locales around the country.

“From the bustling streets of Metro Manila, the non-stop parties of the Boracay shores, the historic town of Vigan, to the beautiful untouched Calamian Islands in Palawan – there is so much to show and experience.” — OfficiallyPhilippines.com

There are a number of articles on destinations, local cuisine and some handy travel tips and trivia about the country. They are currently looking for people who are passionate about local travel who want to share their adventures with everyone.🙂
